Launching Reader's Workshop

In the first month of school, students are learning the rules and procedures for Reader's Workshop.

We first learned about the 3 parts of Read Workshop: Mini-Lesson, Individualized Daily Reading, and Closing.

We then learned how to select "just right" book for their weekly book baggie. Each student will have five books inthe baggie every week. Two of them are leveled books based on assessment. Three of them are “dessert books” based on students interest and capability. Please let me know if the books in your child's book baggie is either too hard or too easy.

We also learned some habbits that good readers will have when they are reading, including using bookmark to track our reading, rereading to recall what we left off, and knowing ourselves as readers.

另外，我们学习了很会读书的小朋友会有的读书习惯。包括使用书签，走神时重读和认识自己的阅读兴趣和能力。

In the next few weeks, students will learn how to talk about their books with peers, and how to write reading response.
